my poetry
A Very brief update in July 2011 Although I HAVE been writing some poetry since I started this blog, I’ve still not got round to updating my page on the Poetrypf Website (see link below).

In my post of 5th May 2011, I mentioned the latest Soundswrite Anthology of poetry. This cover was taken from a painting by the talented artist and poet, Helen Jayne Gunn, one of the many contributors to the anthology.
It will be available from the Soundswrite Website. (This site is still being updated)
After all the other writerly activities in the last two years, I am now focussing on POETRY.
However, although there is a lot going on in the back of my head, it’ll be quite a long time before I’ve written enough for a full collection. When that eventually happens, I’ll let everyone know!
I’ve been writing poetry (of a sort) since childhood, but it wasn’t until I was approaching my half century that I ‘came out’ as a poet. This was as a result of joining an Arvon course at Lumb Bank in Yorkshire, where I gained the confidence to send some of my poems off to the Envoi Poetry Competition and won first prize for my poem Something Like a Stone.
This poem (and a few others) can be seen on my page on the Poetrypf website, founded and edited by the talented and energetic Anne Stewart
Anne is also editor of the SecondLightLive web-site and serves on the Second Light Network Committee and as part-time administrator for the Network.
Here is another of my poems on the SecondLightLive web-site, also edited by Anne.

This is the picture that was used on the Programme for a poetry reading I did at the Midlands Arts Centre, with the poet and publisher of Flarestack poetry, Charles Johnson.
I’ve now added a category to my posts: Poem of the Week - click here to read the current poem - then scroll down to see the others. The first one was posted on 5th July 09 (our cat, Heidi, pushed her way onto the top of that post, so you’ll need to scroll down to find it).
One of the highlights of my poetry career was becoming a member of Late Shift, a performing poetry ensemble

Our first show - Ledbury Festival
Reading back through these posts, I’ve realised that I didn’t even write an account of our hugely successful appearance at the Edinburgh Festival. We worked together for about 6 years, and all together we produced 4 (or maybe it was 5) different shows, and gave performances in venues across the UK, from Camelford in Cornwall, to St Andrews in Scotland, and several other places in between.
I miss the excitement and camaraderie of all this, but, as they say, it’s better to leave a party while you’re still enjoying it, and all good things must come to an end. I hope that one of these days, I can start another group.
