Hi Christine,

Thanks for your e-mail! I don't know how well I can judge the book covers. They all look good, but for some reason I liked the first one, perhaps because the two images seemed to blend more seamlessly than the others, but, like I say, I'm no expert!

In any case, good luck with this! It sounds like a great project!

Best,

Zoe

Hi Christine
Lovely to hear fom you - I was actually looking at the info on Facebook about your new novel last week! Congratulations, sound slike you're doing very well. I like number 3 as it's a bit different to the others, although as you say, maybe the lanterns are a bit obvious. I also like No 7 - I think the colours work well and portray a bit more of the dark/light side of the book that you mention.

I've just finished reading The Piano Teacher, Janice Y K Lee, set in 1940's Hong Kong - coincidence!

I'm very well - got married in Switzerland during the summer - and still at SBC, as dyslexia tutor. Are you still teaching?
good to hear from you, best wishes, julie

I think your favourite, Chris, would be Cover No. 2 because you are looking for an image of optimism shining through disappointment. You asked for some lighter shades arising out of darker hues which is best displayed in cover 2, in my view.

My own favourite is cover 3, because of the lanterns, although i would prefer an overall mid-blue background rather than the black background. I always choose books with covers illustrated with a deep blue sky. If one of the other covers had some lanterns strung across it, I would go for that one.

Dear Adrienne

Thank you for entering the Book Cover Design Challenge.
Your I.D. number is 47

When the Challenge is closed to new entries and the five lucky numbers have been randomly selected, I will be posting this information on my site, and on Facebook ( Christine Coleman) and Twitter (Kristine Koleman) .

If yours is one of the selected numbers, I will be contacting you to ask for your postal address so a copy of Paper Lanterns can be sent to you.

Thank you again

Christine

I can't yet say anything about other people's comments and choices - that'll have to wait till after the final entry is received. The deadline will be 31st December, so there's still time to encourage your friends and relations to join in!

It is really hard to choose here, Christine. My favourites are 4 and 7 - but there aren't any that I wouldn't pick up. I think your designer did a good job. If I had to plum for an absolute fav, it's probably 7 but if I were to look at them a minute longer, might change my mind. Sorry not to be more specific.
